Predicting atmospheric ammonia dispersion and potential ecological effects using monitored emission rates from an intensive laying hen facility in Ireland

چکیده

Agriculture is responsible for 98% of atmospheric ammonia (NH3) in Ireland, which pigs and poultry produce 7%; with laying hens specifically contributing 0.6%. Though a small proportion the national NH3 total emissions, ecological impacts on sensitive sites attributed to hen farms can be substantial. emission monitoring was conducted Spring (February March) Summer (July August) 2016 account seasonal variation. The average ventilation rate 0.25 g bird−1 day−1 931 cm3 s−1 bird−1. This lower than previously used factor Irish inventory 0.5 day−1, but broadly similar factors reported United Kingdom (UK) European Union (EU). Dispersion modelling using monitored data indicated potentially acute effects within 84 m, critical level exceedance 312 m 0.3 kg N ha−1 year−1 deposition 2.9–5.2 km. sensitivity model tested SCAIL-Agriculture rates showed P-values one tailed below 0.01 all models, indicating that when normalised maximum extents modelled by AERMOD were significantly different. analysis having more influence rate. Both parameters combined had greatest increase dispersion extent, 55.8% greater use rates. Effects of dietary fiber and reduced crude protein on ammonia emission from laying-hen manure.

Ammonia (NH(3)) emission is a major concern for the poultry industry. The objective of this research was to determine whether inclusion of dietary fiber and a reduced dietary CP content would decrease NH(3) emission from laying-hen manure. A total of 256 Hy-Line W-36 hens were fed diets with 2 levels of CP (normal and reduced) and 4 fiber treatments in a 2 x 4 factorial arrangement. The fiber t...

Effects of Laying-Hen Strain on Manure Properties and Ammonia Emission

Ammonia (NH3) emissions from laying hens are affected by nutrient content of the diet, manure quantity, and manure properties such as moisture content, nitrogen content, and pH. These production traits may vary with strain of the hen. However, limited information is available concerning the effects of laying-hen genetics on manure properties and NH3 emission. This study was conducted to compara...

Ammonia Emissions Rate from Composted Laying Hen Manure

During the past five years we have developed three emission calorimeters (EC) that can be used to evaluate mass generation and utilization of gasses. We have tested various treatments that significantly reduced ammonia generation by laying hen manure (Harrison and Koelkebeck, 2002; 2003). An Evaluation of Pullet and Young Laying Hen Ammonia Aversion Using a Preference Test Chamber

This research evaluated what ammonia concentration causes pullets or young laying hens to show an aversion. Because previous studies had shown conflicting data for laying hen aversion at 25 ppm ammonia, this aversion was tested with pullets and young laying hens in the current study. The test birds used in this study had not previously experienced elevated ammonia concentrations and thus their ...

Odour and ammonia emissions from intensive poultry units in Ireland.

Odour and ammonia emissions were measured from three broiler, two layer and two turkey houses in Ireland. The broiler units gave a large range of odour and ammonia emission rates depending on the age of the birds and the season. A considerable variation between the odour and ammonia emission rates was evident for the two layer units which may have been due to the different manure handling syste...
